Reports about private cab drivers harassing women in different parts of the country are quite prevalent. While there are a huge number of complaints, one woman who recently shifted to Delhi took to social media to share a pleasant experience with a Rapido driver. She stated how the 40-year-old driver helped her when he realized she was new to the city. She also mentioned that he did not charge her anything for going out of his way to assist her.
In a Reddit post, the woman shared that this incident happened when she visited Delhi for the first time. She narrated, “The day I shifted, my phone was not in working condition, so I was taking phones from random shops or chai tapri owners to book Rapido and to call home to update them.” She added that some people were reluctant to lend her their mobiles, thinking she would run away with them.
Moving on, she stated, “When the Rapido owner learned that I didn’t have a phone and had to find a PG, he was in his 40s; he said that this place that you booked Rapido for looks gloomy and unsafe. He said you are alone in this city, so I will wait till you get the PG and the owner reaches the PG. He said, ‘ I, too, have a daughter at home, so I wouldn’t mind spending my other half hour or more here if you reach safely and settle down.”
Moreover, the driver even didn’t force her to pay as mentioned that he would earn it later. The woman concluded her post by saying, “But hence proved: good people exist because of bad people (Humanity still exists).”
While many accepted that there were good people, many warned her to still be safe. A user wrote, “Yes good men too exist in our society.”
Another person wrote, “But still you gotta be safe. It sounds very dangerous to be in a city you don’t know anyone and on top of that your phone is not working either.”
Sometime back, another report showcased a video that highlighted a Delhi-based woman who found herself in an unexpected predicament when her cab driver became ill in the middle of the journey. Then, the woman decided to take to the wheel and continued the trip.
