Woman Caught Smuggling Turtles In The Most Unexpected Place; Inside Her Bra

The security agency’s advanced screening technology flagged a possible object hidden in the woman’s chest area.

A woman travelling out of Miami International Airport was stopped by security officials after two turtles were found hidden in her bra, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said in a statement released Thursday, July 25.

According to a report in USA Today, the agency’s advanced screening technology flagged a possible object hidden in the woman’s chest area. She was then taken aside for a private screening. It was during this process that officers discovered two live turtles wrapped in gauze and plastic.

Photos posted by the TSA on social media showed how the turtles were packaged and concealed.

“A Florida woman travelling out of Miami International Airport (MIA) recently attempted to take a pair of turtles through our checkpoint, and the turtles were stuffed inside… yes, you guessed it… her brassiere,” the TSA said in a Facebook post.

Officials confirmed that one of the turtles did not survive the incident. The surviving turtle was handed over to the Florida Department of Fish and Wildlife for proper care. The TSA has not released the woman’s identity or the type of turtles involved.

TSA Reminds Travellers About Pet Policy

The TSA issued a reminder on social media following the incident. The agency stressed that while pets are allowed through security checkpoints, they must be transported properly.

“OK, friends, please – and we cannot emphasise this enough – stop hiding animals in weird places on your body and then trying to sneak them through airport security,” the statement read.

“We want you to be able to travel with your pets, and you turtle-ly can, but please travel with them safely. You can start by reaching out to your airline for their rules concerning pets on board flights. As far as TSA screening goes, small pets are allowed through our checkpoint but must be removed from any carriers and carried through the checkpoint (notice we said “carried” and not “hidden underneath your clothing”),” it continued.

Similar Incidents Reported Earlier

This isn’t the first time TSA officers have found animals hidden in unusual ways. In March, a traveller at Newark Liberty International Airport was caught with a turtle tucked inside the front of his pants, CBS News reported. The turtle was not injured, officials said.

In 2024, a man tried to board a flight with a bag full of snakes. And in 2023, officials at Miami airport discovered live Amazon parrot eggs and birds inside a duffel bag after hearing chirping sounds. The man carrying the bag had come from Nicaragua and was on his way to Taiwan. He later pleaded guilty to smuggling charges.
