What did MEA say about US sanctions on Indian companies? Know the inside story

MEA On US Sanctions: The Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday (November 2) reacted to the recent sanctions imposed by the US on several Indian companies and citizens. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said they are working with all relevant departments and agencies to sensitize Indian companies on export control provisions. Indian companies have not violated any national laws and New Delhi is in touch with US officials to clarify the issues. India has a strong legal and regulatory framework on strategic trade and non-proliferation controls.

Randhir Jaiswal said, “We are also members of the three major multilateral non-proliferation export control regimes – the Wassenaar Arrangement and the Australia Group (AG) and the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) – and effectively implement relevant UNSC sanctions on non-proliferation and UNSC Resolution 1540. Are doing.

Companies do not violate Indian laws

Jaiswal said, “Our understanding is that the sanctioned transactions and companies do not violate Indian laws. Nevertheless, in keeping with India’s established non-proliferation credentials, we will work with all relevant Indian departments and agencies to enforce the sanctions against Indian companies.” Along with making them aware about the export control provisions, they are also informing about the new measures being implemented which may affect Indian companies in certain circumstances.

America banned 19 Indian companies

Taking action against 19 Indian companies and two individuals, the US State Department has put them in the list of about 400 institutions and individuals from many countries. They are accused of providing material and technology assistance to Russia during the ongoing war in Ukraine. This action of America has come at a time when bilateral relations with India are already under tension due to allegations of role of an Indian citizen in the conspiracy to murder Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil. Last week, the US said it would not be completely satisfied until India was held accountable for its investigation into the alleged conspiracy.
