In what can look like a scene straight out of an action movie, a groom in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut became an unlikely hero when he chased a thief who reportedly snatched a currency note from his garland and sped off. The groom, Dev Kumar, was riding his horse after the traditional ghudchadhi when the incident occurred. Without a second thought, he left his wedding celebrations and jumped into action.

Journalist Piyush Rai shared a video of the chase on X (formerly Twitter), which quickly became a viral sensation. According to the reports, the thief was driving a pickup truck and the groom wasn’t ready to let it go. He began his pursuit by asking for a lift from a motorist and chased the pickup driver on a busy road. The thief didn’t stop but the determined groom refused to give up. The video shows Dev Kumar clinging onto the truck as it sped along the road. He shocked the viewers when he made his way to the passenger window of the truck and forced the driver to stop the vehicle.

Once the vehicle was stopped, the groom, along with his relatives, confronted the thief. The video, recorded by a passerby, shows the groom and his family giving the thief a rough time with slaps and punches.

Take a look at the video here:

The Meerut Police quickly responded to the viral video, stating, “Partapur Police Station has been directed to take action.”

The groom’s relentless chase gained significant traction online and sparked a flood of reactions from social media users.

One user humorously wondered, “Not sure whether the bride will be really impressed with his skills though.”

One person declared, “Best Groom Award goes to Dev Kumar,” while another said, “One video. 10 Indian version of Tom Cruises. Hollywood should learn a lesson or two.”

More fun comments kept pouring in with remarks like, “NSG commando??,” “Dhoom 4″ and “Money Heist India.”

Meanwhile, India Today reported a different version of the story as explained by the truck’s owner, Manish Sehgal. He said that the driver, Jagpal, had no idea about the commotion behind him. Sehgal claimed that the groom had accused the truck of brushing against him while on the road which led to the dramatic chase. He added that the driver was attacked by the groom and his party, despite having no involvement with the stolen currency note.

“We have reported the incident to the police and plan to take legal action against the attackers,” Sehgal said
