Ahead of his potential Ranji Trophy return, many fans turned up at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday morning to watch Virat Kohli training with the Delhi team. During the practice session, a young boy asked Kohli to share tips for representing the Indian Cricket Team. The kid, named Kabir, was reportedly the son of one of Kohli’s childhood friends, Shavez. The former India captain was supposedly taking a break from training when the boy approached him and asked, “What do I need to do to become an Indian Cricketer?”
In response, Kohli highlighted the importance of ‘hard work,’ claiming it to be the only mantra to shine on the bigger stage. “You shouldn’t need your dad to tell you to practice or train. You should wake up early and tell yourself, ‘I need to go and practice,” said Kohli in a video shared by CREX on Instagram.
“If someone practices for one hour, you should do two. Always aim to do more than others. This is the only way. If someone scores fifty, aim for a hundred; if someone scores a hundred, go for two hundred. You have to push yourself beyond the benchmark. So keep working hard and enjoy,” the batting maestro explained further.
After the video went viral, many fans showed their love for Kohli while shedding light on his ‘humility’ and ‘words of wisdom.’ Some of them dubbed the little fan luckiest” as he got to meet the “King”.
A user wondered, “Imagine the kid makes it to international cricket and this video is shown during his debut.” “When this child will grow up, one day he will realise that he talked to the God,” noted a viewer. Another felt “the kid was living his dream”.
One fan quipped about Kohli’s struggle with the outside-off deliveries and humorously advised the kid to keep that in mind as well. “Need to play Ranji Trophy regularly,” added another. An individual reckoned “luck is also necessary” to earn a call-up to the Indian team as thousands of talented cricketers are chasing the same dream.
Meanwhile, Kohli is making a comeback to the Ranji Trophy after more than a decade. He will most likely represent Delhi in the next match against the Railways, starting on Thursday, January 30. Kohli last featured in the domestic red-ball competition in November 2012.
