A singer in Luxembourg has found himself in the spotlight for his striking resemblance to Elon Musk. But Hugo One, 28, doesn’t take the constant comparisons to the tech billionaire as a compliment. Hugo, a disco-soul artist, says he is regularly stopped by strangers who think he looks like the Tesla boss. It happens at supermarkets, bars, outside nightclubs and even when he is just hanging out with friends.
According to SWNS, he was recently out with his friends in Aberdeen, Scotland, when a group of men shouted “you’re Elon Musk” at him. It wasn’t the first time that happened that evening. The men were surprised and started filming him because they thought he really was Musk. Hugo said people stop him like this about twice a month. Some even ask to take selfies with him.
Musk, who is 53, is well known as the head of Tesla, the owner of X (formerly Twitter) and the founder of SpaceX. He also works as a senior advisor for the White House.
Even though the extra attention can be tiring, Hugo says he “likes” how he looks and doesn’t plan to change anything about his appearance.
“I don’t take it as a compliment to be compared to Elon because he’s not a nice person. He’s also not at all good looking. But I took it as a laugh because they were a nice friendly group of lads. Plus, it’s created some great traffic to my page and people are downloading my songs,” he added.
Hugo used to work as an English and French teacher in Berlin, Germany. In 2018, one of his students was the first to tell him that he looked like Musk. Since then, people have continued to say it and thankfully, hasn’t faced any abuse for it.
During the Scotland trip, Hugo and his university friends made a stop in Aberdeen which is the city where they all met during college. That night, four different groups had already told Hugo he looked like Musk. Then a fifth group of three men said the same thing.
“They were the fifth group of people to stop me that night – I was exhausted. At this point, I was tired, and it had already happened four times before. But I took it in jest because you have to see the funny side,” Hugo said.
He shared a video of the moment on social media, and it has now been viewed over 1.5 million times. Many people in the comments pointed out that he is the tech billionaire’s doppelgänger.
Hugo says he doesn’t mind the attention as long as people understand that he has nothing to do with Musk or his beliefs.
