The conversation around a groom’s salary during matrimonial meetups is not rare. But in current times there has been a rising debate on the exceeding demands of parents in terms of the person’s remunerations. Recently, an investor took to the microblogging platform X, triggering a heated conversation on social media about the rising pay expectations for grooms in weddings, particularly in the IT industry. He urged that this perspective needed a change, and many internet users agreed with him.
The investor stated, “Salary expectations of grooms during wedding matches are insane. <1L/month are not even being considered if the person is in IT. Mindset of parents requires RESET. How can a 28-year-old earn 1-2L, have their own car and a house? Your generation had all these for retirement."

Social media users reacted to the issue, with many stating that this has become a sad reality in the society. A user noted, “Everybody wants a millionaire these days, credentials of the girl just don’t count.” Another person mentioned, “Ladke waalo ko ladki ke baap se chahiye apne kis umar sab hasil kar liya tha, jiski demand aap ladke “What are you doing?”
Some also highlighted that it will be an issue of grooms trying to get matches from rich families. A person added, “If you are trying to match with girls from richer families, this is to be expected. Expectations are created by where each family exists in the social/economic strata of the country.”

The boy’s parents should ask the girl’s father what age he had reached, the demand you are making from the boy is to establish religion?? (@deepakbind94) January 7, 2025
An individual also reflected on the ordeal of middle class men stating, “Funny how it is for middle class man in this country, your entire worth is how much money you can stuff in others mouths, as long as you do you’re the sweetest darling for everyone if you fail for one day life, you’re the greatest villain in existence.”

Better be single than get into such transactions. If arranged marriage should happen it should be based on matching mindsets and not economic status and position. Thats not going to work in the longrun— BengaluruBoy (@BurnolBlr) January 7, 2025
There were others who suggested that people should stay single rather than being questioned about salary. “Better be single than get into such transactions. If arranged marriage should happen it should be based on matching mindsets and not economic status and position. That’s not going to work in the long run,” commented one user.
