Ramayana Written In One Word By Jharkhand Writer, Here’s How Long It Takes To Read It – News18

Shiv Kumar Pandey, an Ayurvedic doctor from Jharkhand, condensed the Ramayana into a single word spanning 10 pages that will take you hours to read.

The word encapsulates the entire narrative arc of Lord Rama’s life

As the nation bathed in the spiritual fervour of Ram Navami on Sunday, a quiet marvel from Jharkhand’s Palamu district turned heads in the literary and devotional circles. In a feat that defies convention, a local Ayurvedic doctor and writer condensed the vast epic of the Ramayana into a single word – a linguistic construction so elaborate, it spans 10 pages and took nearly a year to create.

Shiv Kumar Pandey, a 40-year-old resident of Redma locality in Palamu and son of Udit Narayan Pandey, authored what is being hailed as the world’s longest word. Made from 3,046 Sanskrit and Hindi letters fused through a complex system of sandhi (phonetic conjunctions), the word encapsulates the entire narrative arc of Lord Rama’s life – from his birth in Ayodhya to his triumphant return and coronation.

“I wanted to do something that would draw people back to our epics in a unique way,” Pandey told Local18, adding that when presented artistically, heritage resonates more deeply with the public. His creation, titled Ek shabdiya ramayana (One-Word Ramayana), has already earned a place in the India Book of Records, and Pandey now has his sights set on global recognition through the Guinness World Records.

The word itself, he says, is not a randomly strung chain of syllables but a carefully engineered linguistic construct that adheres to the strict rules of Sanskrit and Hindi grammar. Understanding it, however, is no small task – Pandey estimates it would take a dedicated reader nearly eight hours to read and comprehend the full text, requiring not just fluency but focused concentration to parse the intricate Sandhi-Vichhed (word dissection).

By profession, Pandey practices Ayurveda, but literature is his soul’s calling. He has been writing for over 15 years and has dabbled in 15 distinct literary styles. Yet, he admits, nothing has drawn as much attention as this experiment in extreme brevity.

His ultimate goal is to bring this creation to the masses through Geeta Press, the most respected publisher of Hindu religious literature. “This is not just about setting records,” he reflects, “It’s about sparking curiousity and reverence for the Ramayana in the hearts of people, especially the youth, through innovation.”
