‘One day, with a drink in hand…’, President said on the expulsion of Colombian citizens from America

Donald Trump vs Petro Tensions: The dispute between US President Donald Trump and Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro deepened when Colombia stopped two deportation flights from landing in its country. In these flights, Colombian immigrants were being sent back from America. In response, Trump threatened to impose strict sanctions on Colombia. Petro retorted that America can never rule us.

However, the White House later said that the sanctions were stopped after Colombia agreed. Colombia’s Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo said that his country will take back its citizens in an honorable manner.

Why did Petro stop deportation flights?

Donald Trump had promised to rapidly deport illegal immigrants after becoming president. While trying to implement this, they are facing opposition from Latin American countries. Colombian President Petro said that America does not have the right to treat its citizens as criminals.

Petro made it clear that if American military planes bring the deported people, they will not be allowed to land. He said that they are ready to bring back their citizens with dignity. Petro also emphasized that there are about 15,000 illegal American citizens living in Colombia, but his government will not arrest and deport them.

However, Petro had to face criticism within the country for his decision. Former President Iván Duque called it a “grossly irresponsible step” and said Colombia had a moral duty to take back its citizens.

Trump’s aggressive stance

Trump wrote on his social media platform TruthSocial that the Colombian president blocked two deportation flights carrying “illegal criminals” from landing. He has announced strict economic sanctions on Colombia, calling Petro an “unpopular socialist president”.

Trump ordered a 25 percent tariff on all goods coming from Colombia and said it would be increased to 50 percent next week. In addition, the Colombian authorities and their supporters announced visa cancellations and travel bans. He said, “This step is just the beginning. We will not let the Colombia government shirk its responsibilities.”

Petro’s befitting reply

Hours after Trump’s post, Petro responded on social media platform X. He wrote, “I don’t like traveling to America, it’s a bit boring.” Petro took a jibe at Trump, saying he would “destroy the human race because of greed.”

He said, “Even though I have gastritis, maybe someday, over a glass of whiskey, we can talk about it openly, but it is difficult because you consider me inferior, whereas I am not and neither does anyone Are colombian.”

Petro challenged, writing, “You can threaten me with a coup if you want, like you did with Salvador Allende. But I will die in my law. We freed our country from slaves and no longer want a new ruler.” Want.”
