Sharing pictures of his latest haircut, Michael Vaughan mentioned that he stopped by another barber as his regular barber was out of town.

The country is buzzing with excitement as the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicked off on March 22. Players, coaches and broadcasters are in India for the big cricket tournament. One of them is former England cricketer-turned-commentator Michael Vaughan who recently got a haircut from a roadside barber in Mumbai. Vaughan is known for his love for Mumbai’s roadside barber shops and never misses a chance to visit one during his stay.
Sharing pictures of his latest haircut on social media, the former cricketer explained that his regular barber was out of town. So, he stopped by another barber named Akil whose shop is located near the Gateway of India just behind the Taj hotel. “My good friend Dindayal is back in his village, so I popped along to see Akil this morning for my usual #Mumbai Trim .. Outstanding barber .. #India,” Vaughan wrote on Instagram.
When Vaughan shared the pictures on X as well, former Australian cricketer-turned-commentator Mark Waugh couldn’t resist taking a playful dig at him. He jokingly said that the barber had a tough job making Vaughan look presentable. “Got his work cut out trying to tidy up your mug,” Waugh wrote.

Vaughan has often spoken about why he prefers Mumbai’s roadside barbers over high-end salons. In an earlier interview with Hindustan Times, he explained, “Whenever I need a shave, I hit the streets. Why use a posh salon in the hotel when you can just go to a streetside and get it done by someone who is equally as skilled?” For him, it is not just about the haircut but soaking in the local experience.
He also pointed out that an experience like this is something one can’t find in the UK. “We don’t have this in the UK. It’s a wonderful way of life, when you’re just sitting outside and someone is giving you a shave on the side of a road with everything going around you. It’s just surreal,” he said.
Vaughan recently made headlines when he revealed that Delhi Capitals wanted to sign Ben Duckett as a replacement for Harry Brook who pulled out of IPL 2025 but the English opener rejected the offer. “I did hear a whisper that they (Delhi Capitals) went for Ben Duckett but Ben Duckett doesn’t wanna come over,” Vaughan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. He also felt that Brook should have played in the IPL as it would have been beneficial for him with the T20 World Cup coming up next year in India and Sri Lanka.
