Men also have problems like menopause of women, this is how it affects the body with advancing age.

Menopause is discussed a lot. With increasing age, not only women feel the changes in hormones, but men also go through uncomfortable situations. When does this happen, do men also experience mood swings like women, what to do if there is a problem? Regarding all such questions, news agency IANS contacted Delhi-based C.K. Talked to Dr. Sameer Khanna, Director of Urology Department at Birla Hospital.

What is male menopause?

According to the senior urologist, andropause, often referred to as “male menopause”, is not the same as menopause in women. Although there are some similarities between them. Andropause refers to the gradual decline in testosterone hormone levels as men age, which usually begins around the age of 50 and gradually increases over the years. According to Dr. Khanna, it does not affect fertility. Unlike menopause, which marks the end of fertility in women, this does not happen in andropause, she said.

What are the symptoms like?

Andropause includes symptoms like fatigue, loss of libido, mood swings, loss of muscle mass, increase in fat. These changes are associated with falling levels of testosterone, but they can also be exacerbated by factors such as stress, chronic disease or lifestyle habits.

How dangerous is male menopause?

Is there a need to be afraid of this? To this question the doctor said, “No, men should be aware of andropause but they should not necessarily “worry” about it. It is a natural process of aging, most people experience only mild symptoms. However, those with severe problems should consult a specialist to determine testosterone levels, and if they are abnormally low, testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) may be an option. TRT should be used only under medical supervision, as it may cause heart problems and increase the risk of prostate problems.”

How can we protect ourselves?

Doctors also advise adopting a healthy routine. The effects of andropause can be prevented with regular exercise, a balanced diet, adequate sleep, stress management and avoiding smoking or excessive alcohol, he said. Men should also prioritize regular health checkups to monitor overall health and address any emerging health concerns.
