Make Canada the 51st state of America! Why did Donald Trump give this advice to Justin Trudeau?

Trump Trudeau Meeting: America’s newly elected President Donald Trump has announced to impose 25% tariff on goods coming from countries like Canada and Mexico. After this, there has been an increase in the stir regarding trade relations between these countries. According to Fox News report, on Friday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met Donald Trump in Florida. During this, Trump suggested to Trudeau that if Canada cannot resolve these issues, then it should consider becoming the 51st state of America. After which a new debate has erupted on the relations between the two countries.

Actually, this statement of Donald Trump has come out in a meeting held in Mar-a-Lago. Trump bluntly told Trudeau that if Canada cannot fix the border issue and trade deficit, he will impose 25% tariffs on all Canadian products on his first day in office. In response, Trudeau said that Trump cannot impose tariffs because it would destroy Canada’s economy. According to Fox News, Trump responded, “So your country can’t survive unless it makes America lose $100 billion?”

Canada’s answer
Trump’s suggestion is being considered offensive in Canada. Actually, Canada is America’s second largest trading partner. Automobile, agricultural products and energy sectors may be affected due to increase in tariffs. This decision can have a deep impact on the economy of Canada, which sends a large part of its exports to America. Canada has previously signed agreements with the United States to protect its trade gains, such as NAFTA (now USMCA). The Trump administration has always taken a tough stance on immigration. Trump has criticized Canada’s liberal policy towards refugees and immigrants. Trump believes that Canada’s immigration policy could weaken America’s border security. At the same time, Canada considers immigration as a part of its national identity. Justin Trudeau has always taken a strong stand for immigration and human rights. This statement of Trump is being considered an attack on the sovereignty of Canada.

Could Canada consider becoming the 51st state?
Canada has been an independent nation since 1867 and has a political and cultural identity separate from the United States. The political structures of both the countries are different. Allegiance to the Canadian Constitution and the British Monarchy gives Canada a unique identity. The Canadian people and politicians have always prioritized their freedom. This proposal is not acceptable to the public, because it is against their sovereignty and freedom.
