Comedian Kunal Kamra has criticised Zomato for their recent post regarding the delivery partners. The food delivery company has urged its customers to rate the delivery executives once they receive the food. Though the feature is available on the platform, most of the users ignore it. Taking a dig at those customers, Zomato wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Some people skip giving ratings to delivery partners, the same people get upset when their work does not get recognition.”
In response to the post, Kamra, known for sparking controversies with his bold remarks, raised questions over the alleged low salary of the delivery partners. “Some people skip giving minimum wage & social security, the same people get upset when they are sent to prison,” the Puducherry-based comedian shared.
While some users agreed with Kamra, many showed their support for Zomato. One of them commented, “Underpay is offensive. No doubt. But are these gig workers bonded labour? Aren’t they getting paid more than what they would find elsewhere? The world isn’t just. Accept it.”
An individual slammed the comedian, saying, “Kunal Kamra can hire people and not just give minimum wage but 3x of it. After all, the minimum is minimum for a reason and is not maximum. Will he do it or just keep tweeting against those providing work and jobs to others?”
Echoing the same sentiment, another wrote, “At least, a job and salary are provided to jobless people. Cribbing is easy, tell me how many you have employed yet. Leading a comfortable life and throwing shit on everyone looks like your job.”
Going by Kunal Kamra’s claims, a user explained, “These brands charge extra from customers in the name of platform fees and other charges, but I wonder how much of it is utilised to give health insurance and incentives to the gig workers.”
Back in June last year, Zomato achieved a Guinness World Record (GWR) by training over 4,000 delivery executives to provide medical assistance during roadside emergencies. However, after CEO Deepinder Goyal shared the news on social media, comedian Kunal Kamra criticised him, highlighting concerns about delivery agents’ average pay and extended working hours.
