A Delhi man shared a heartwarming story of a stranger who went out of his way to return his mother’s lost phone, which his sister had accidentally dropped in a mall’s parking lot.

Delhi: A stranger, who found the phone in the parking lot of a mall, returned it to its rightful owner late at night.

A man’s mother lost her smartphone in the parking lot of a mall in Nirman Vihar where they had gone to watch a movie. The man’s sister accidentally dropped the phone but only realised it once they were already seated in the theatre. Fortunately, a stranger found the phone in the mall’s parking lot and went out of his way to return it to its rightful owner. The man recounted this experience in a Reddit post, explaining how they managed to retrieve his mother’s lost phone.

“So, last night, I went with my fam to watch a late night movie at V3S Mall in Nirman Vihar. We were a full squad of 7. 5 packed in the car, while my cousin bro and I reached there on a scooty,” the man wrote on Reddit’s Delhi community.

He added, “Now, here’s where things went sideways. My sister was holding my mom’s phone, and just as she gets out of the car in the parking lot, brain fades and she drops the phone. She doesn’t even realise. We all get cosy in the theatre, ready to watch the movie, and suddenly, my sister casually mentions, ‘Oh, I can’t find Mom’s phone.’ I was like chill, car mein reh gaya hoga mobile. (The mobile must have been left in the car)”

However, when they called the phone, a stranger answered. The family assumed they might not get it back. However, they were relieved when the stranger assured them he would return it. “He (the guy who found the phone) is not at V3S mall; he’s at Crossriver Mall in Karkardooma as he works there and he assured us that he’ll hand over the mobile. Me and my cousin left the movie theatre to retrieve the mobile. We even jump red lights to get there ASAP. Sorry, not proud about it at all,” the man explained.

He continued, “We reach Crossriver, sneak in through the Haldiram’s entrance at the back, and the guy’s insisting we meet him at the front gate. I’m like, ‘Bro, isn’t that the part of the mall where all the ‘sketchy stuff’ happens?’ I even asked the security guard on Haldiram’s if that area is safe and he was like ‘Inside the mall is fine; we can’t say anything about the outside’.”

However, when they found the area packed with people even late at night. “We finally spot the guy outside the front gate, turns out he’s a jhoolewala.”

“He hands over the phone, and honestly, we’re so relieved. We offered to buy him and his brother some food as a thank-you gesture, but they refused, so we ended up giving him some cash,” he further shared. In the comments, the man mentioned handing Rs 500 cash to the stranger.

The man expressed his gratitude, “Super grateful to him. I mean, it’s rare to bump into such honest people these days. Also, shoutout to the security guard of the movie theatre who let us back in again to watch the movie.”

Take a look at the Reddit post below:

“A few months back something similar happened with my cousin. She was in a rickshaw and simply dropped her phone in it and went her way. After she realised, she came back home and made a call. The rickshaw driver was nice enough to return it,” shared a Reddit user.

Another joined, “It happened to me too. The Uber driver picked up my phone when I called it, it had slipped from my pocket into the cab. He told us he was waiting at the Haldiram’s restaurant and we reached there after about 10 minutes. He gave us the phone intact and didn’t even take money. The auto driver who took us to Haldiram’s was also shocked. Needless to say, I was very careful not to drop the phone in his auto.”

“Broke all the red lights for a phone. Phones being more expensive than life,” quipped a third.

A fourth posted, “Keep the goodness alive. Do a good deed whenever possible!”

“Honestly I met the kindest and rudest people in Delhi. Recently, an auto driver spent so much of his time and fuel searching for a church that I was trying to attend, and he did not take extra money than the one we initially agreed upon,” shared yet another Reddit user.
