Despite the freezing temperatures, Jal Shakti employees are working tirelessly to repair the water pipes and alleviate the situation. The onset of winter routinely brings water shortages to this region, a problem that is always intensified by snowfall.
In Lahaul Valley, frozen water pipes due to cold and snowfall have left residents struggling to obtain drinking water. Forced to rely on rivers and streams, people are using motors to extract water. A video has now gone viral, showcasing Jal Shakti Department employees braving the bitter cold as they work inside a drain to repair a water source.

With temperatures in Lahaul-Spiti currently below freezing, the trio entered an icy drain to repair a frozen water pipe. Their selfless act, carried out amidst the bitter cold and snowfall, has garnered widespread praise. Local MLA Anuradha Rana also shared the video, commending the employees for their dedication.
What is the temperature of the valley?
The temperature is currently below freezing in the Lahaul Valley. In Tabo, Lahaul, the temperature was recorded at minus 13 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. Kukumseri recorded a temperature of minus 11 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures have fallen below zero across the valley, causing the Sissu lake to freeze over. A layer of ice measuring six to seven feet thick has formed on the lake, and children have been observed skating on its surface. Further snowfall and rain are expected in Himachal Pradesh from January 11.
Bus services on Leh-Manali Highway to resume
Heavy snowfall occurred in Lahaul-Spiti 10 days ago, closing the Leh-Manali Highway. Although the highway has reopened, bus services were suspended. Local MLA Anuradha Rana has announced that bus services to Manali will resume on Thursday.
