A solo traveller from Germany is all praises for the public transport in India, specifically metros in Delhi and Agra. In an Instagram post, the vlogger, who identifies himself as Alex Welder, mentioned that “India’s metro is better than Western Europe’s”.
He said he was “pleasantly surprised” over finding a seat on the Delhi Metro almost 90 per cent of the time.
He described the metros in Agra and Delhi “a very decent metro system”, and said he had seen facilities like platform screen doors, phone charging stations, designated seats for women and elderly only in countries like Japan, South Korea, and China.
The vlogger also expressed his happiness over finding scores of food and shopping options on metro stations.
He also mentioned he had not seen vloggers showing the metro in Indian cities, and that he was just acquainted with “the hectic road traffic”.
“Did you expect metros like this in India?” Welder began his post with.
“I didn’t know that some cities in India like Agra and Delhi actually have a very decent metro system. Delhi even has platform screen doors on some of its lines, plugs to charge your phone and designated seats for women and elderly. These are all things I’ve seen in South Korea, Japan and China but honestly did not expect to find in India,” his post read.
“I stayed in South Delhi and I was also pleasantly surprised that I got a place to sit in 80-90% of the time, as long as I didn’t ride the metros at rush hour and stayed away from the city center and tourist hotspots,” he wrote.
“AND: Every metro stations also has LOTS of food and shopping options,” the vlogger wrote.
“I haven’t seen any content creator showing the metro system in Indian cities, usually it’s just the hectic road traffic that you see,” he added.
The vlogger also added a video to his post, showing himself in surprise, and sitting with his legs straight inside a spacious metro coach.
The video also showed an eatery at one of the metro stations.
Alex’s post garnered the attention of a lot of social media users, who added the pleasant things they had noticed on the metros in India.
“They were so clean and had AC,” one of the comments on his post read.
“Honestly the more I travel the more I think the western world is just a third world country lying to itself,” a social media user wrote.
“No drug addicts, no drunken people, nobody pissing or puking, no rats, clean a little crowded, best connectivity! better than any other subway system,” another user commented.
“Delhi metro is sooo much better than London tube,” another one wrote.
“India is catching up in silence while being humble,” one of the comments read.
