Canada’s Immigration Rules : The Canadian Immigration Authority is considering eliminating the additional benefit that applicants for temporary or permanent residency receive if they have a job offer, an important step to reduce residency fraud in Canada. These job offers come under the Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), which is a document obtained by the employer when hiring a foreign worker.
Applicants seeking Permanent Residency (PR) can have at least 50 points added to their score if they are offered a job, which increases their chances of qualifying under the Express Entry category.
Immigration Minister announced changes
Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Mark Miller, has announced possible changes to Canada’s immigration rules during a press conference in Ottawa on Tuesday (December 17). Meanwhile, Miller said, ‘The government plans to implement additional measures to strengthen the integrity of the program and reduce LMIA fraud. Which includes removing the extra points given to candidates for Express Entry due to job offer.
Miller further said, “This measure will eliminate the incentive for candidates to purchase LMIA. This will increase fairness in the system.”
LMIA Fraud becomes a topic of discussion in Canada
LMIA fraud has been a topic of discussion in Canada in recent months, as the government seeks to control immigration and overhaul its entire system.
It has come to light in many reports that some unscrupulous immigration agents prepare LMIAs in collaboration with employers. In return, the employees pay them an amount ranging from 10,000 Canadian dollars to approximately 75,000 Canadian dollars. Some potential migrants have informed Hindustan Times about the demands made for the processing of LMIA.
