Amid the ongoing investigation in the suicide case of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash, Prathyusha Challa, an IIM Ahmedabad graduate, talked about her family’s harrowing experience of alleged extortion by her former sister-in-law in a YouTube video that went viral on social media.

In the video, Challa recalled how her brother, who is an assistant professor at a Hyderabad engineering college, married a woman from Rajahmundry in 2019. However, their marriage lasted for just 10 days.

Notably, the revelation came amid the ongoing debate regarding domestic violence against men following the suicide of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash in December 2024.

“She misbehaved with my parents, spoke foul language, and did not allow my brother to enter into his own bedroom,” the IIM graduate said, adding, “During the 10 days she stayed with us, she continuously threatened us that she would commit suicide. This was clearly an extortion plan by my sister-in-law, her sister, her brother, and her boyfriend.”

She further elaborated on how her sister-in-law’s sister also executed a similar extortion plan with her in-laws.

Challa stated that after her sister-in-law left their house within 10 days of marriage, she filed a 498 case against us. “The FIR was filed without our knowledge or any investigation,” she said in the video.

Challa then went on to claim that the trial had not begun even five years after the case was filed. “It has been 5 years since this incident and the trial for this case has not yet begun. This has been traumatising. My parent’s health had declined,” she asserted.

Revealing what the family is going through because of the alleged fake domestic violence case, Challa stated that the pending criminal case against her had made her lose several professional opportunities, despite her flawless academic records.

Since being shared online the video has gone viral on social media with netizens raising concerns over the flaws in arranged marriages. While some users criticised the laws favouring a specific gender, a few users came up and talked about them being victims of such false cases.
