Pop star Katy Perry, with five other women, has safely returned to Earth after making a space trip aboard Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin rocket. She was also joined by Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, as the all-women crew roared to the edge of the cosmos, launching more than 60 miles above the Earth’s surface. The flight took off from western Texas shortly after 8:30 AM before making a safe landing again about 10 minutes later.

“It’s a 10 out of 10. That’s my review. Definitely go for it. I think this experience has shown me you never know how much love is inside of you, like how much love you have to give and how loved you are until the day you launch,” the singer said after returning to Earth.

Perry was also seen kissing the ground after exiting the capsule.

Katy Perry Goes To Space

Katy Perry was among the all-female voyage into space via Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket. The flight took off on Monday, travelling over 60 miles into the atmosphere, past the Karman Line. “I gotta sing in space,” Perry posted on Instagram, and she indeed sang during the flight. One of the other passengers, TV presenter Gayle King, revealed that the pop star sang What A Wonderful World in space.

“I’ve covered that song in the past. Obviously, my higher self is steering the ship. I had no clue I’d one day decide to sing a little bit of that in space. It’s not about me. It’s not about singing my songs. It’s about a collective energy and making space for future women,” Perry said, as per Variety.

Among others on the trip were civil rights advocate Amanda Nguyen, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and entrepreneur and former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe.

Can You Book A Ticket?

One can definitely travel to space, but only with very deep pockets or someone very recognisable to get an invitation as an honoured guest.

In case you want the same trip as Katy Perry, the Blue Origin website states the applicants will need to pay a refundable deposit of $150,000 (Rs 1.28 crore). Earlier in 2021, Blue Origin auctioned a seat for its maiden flight for $28 million (Rs 241 crore), with some passengers disclosing that they paid from zero to nearly $30 million (Rs 258) for a single seat.

Likewise, Virgin Galactic has been selling a 90-minute ride to space for $45,000 (Rs 3.85 crore) per seat, while Space Perspective is charging $125,000 (Rs 1.07 crore) per person for a six-hour trip to the stratosphere.

Over the past years, many people, including famous personalities, have been to space. Blue Origin’s Blue Shepard has launched 58 people into space, including Jeff Bezos himself, Star Trek actor William Shatner, former NFL star Michael Strahan, YouTube star Coby Cotton, TV host Emily Calandrelli, and Virgin Galactic founder Richard Branson, among others.
