The Maharashtra government has made a big announcement for farmers and entrepreneurs associated with fisheries. Now new guidelines have been implemented in the state regarding the purchase of fish food. The purpose of these rules is to promote local producers and make fisheries more self -sufficient.
State Fisheries and Port Minister Nitesh Rane said that now all government subsidized fisheries projects will have to buy fodder from only those dietary producers who are registered, recognized or sponsored by the government. The main objective of this change is to reduce dependence on imported fodder and provide quality fodder in the state itself.
Local fish diet manufacturers will get promotion
Rane said that at present, a large amount of fish fodder is ordered from outside, which also increases the cost and damages the local industry. Now under the new ‘group’ guidelines, it will be mandatory to buy fodder only from registered feed manufacturers in the state. This will promote local production and also create new employment opportunities.
These projects will be benefited
The minister said that many fisheries initiatives are going on in Maharashtra under the joint schemes of the Center and the state, such as fish seed production centers, bioflock systems, cage rearing, RAS (re -circulating aquaculture system), and nursery pond. All these require high quality fish diet. Now all these projects will get better feed, which will also improve production.
Rules of strict quality control
In the new instructions, many strict standards have been set for fish diet. Now it will be mandatory to certify all feeds from authorized agencies like ISI, BIS or FSSAI. Apart from this, nutrition related information on fodder packaging such as protein, fats, moisture and carbohydrates will have to be made clearly and the last date will have to be written clearly.
