ENG vs IND, 5th Test: Chris Woakes sustains shoulder injury while fielding

England all-rounder Chris Woakes appeared to sustain a serious shoulder injury whilst fielding during Day 1 of the fifth Test between England and India at The Oval.

He sustained the injury whilst attempting to prevent a boundary during the 57th over of the Indian batting innings. Woakes chased a Karun Nair off-drive from mid-off, and attempted a dive in order to prevent the ball from reaching the boundary.

Woakes appeared in immediate discomfort, and did not attempt to get up to return the ball. He was then assisted from the field by a member of the England support staff.

Woakes had already played an important part in the first day of the Test, sending down 14 overs and dismissing Indian opener K.L. Rahul. His further participation in the Test remains to be seen.
