A Brazilian couple, Manoel Angelim Dino and Maria de Sousa Dino have made history by setting a new Guinness World Record for being the longest-married living couple. As of now, they have been married for an astonishing 84 years and 77 days. Their love story began in 1936 when they first met, and four years later, in 1940, they exchanged vows at a chapel in Ceará, Brazil. Since then, they have built a beautiful life together, raising 13 children and creating a vast family that now includes 55 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Before them, the record was held by David Jacob Hiller and Sarah Davy Hiller from Canada, who were married for 88 years and 349 days. However, the title changed hands following Sarah’s passing.
LongeviQuest, an organization dedicated to tracking the lives of centenarians, shared the couple’s inspiring journey on Instagram. They revealed that Manoel fell in love with Maria at first sight, but her family initially opposed their union. Determined to be with Maria, Manoel took the initiative to build a home for them, eventually winning her family’s approval. According to Maria, the only “secret” to their long and happy marriage is love.
Their journey together was not without hardships. In the early years of their marriage, Manoel and Maria supported their growing family by selling rolled tobacco. Despite the challenges, they provided for their children and ensured a stable home. Their perseverance and deep bond helped them navigate through the ups and downs of life.
Today, both over 100 years old, Manoel and Maria enjoy a peaceful and quiet life. Due to his age, Manoel rests for most of the day, but every evening, he joins Maria in listening to the rosary prayer on the radio at 6 PM, followed by a televised mass. Their love and devotion to each other remain as strong as ever, proving that true love can stand the test of time.
