BPCL, Sembcorp form JV for green hydrogen, renewables – The Times of India

NEW DELHI: State-run Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) on Monday will form an equal joint venture with Sembcorp for green hydrogen production as well as other renewable energy projects in India and elsewhere.
Sembcorp will execute the joint venture through its wholly-owned subsidiary Green Hydrogen India Pvt Ltd. The JV will leverage Sembcorp’s experience in renewables and BPCL’s experience in the petroleum sector and its infrastructure.
The JV will also pursue projects for green ammonia production and bunkering, emissions reduction for port operations and other emerging green fuel technologies.
BPCL chairman G Krishnakumar said the JV support India’s climate goals and the company’s 2040 net-zero target with a 10 GW renewable energy portfolio.
Sembcorp CEO (West) Vipul Tuli said with focus on identifying opportunities to help decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors, Sembcorp is committed to delivering scalable, low-carbon solutions for a sustainable future.
Sembcorp is pursuing the use of green hydrogen and ammonia as key decarbonisation pathways. With 6GW of renewables assets in India, Sembcorp is well-positioned to enable large-scale, low-cost green hydrogen production.
