An Indian passenger found himself stranded in Rome after his flight was abruptly rerouted due to a reported security issue. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the New York-to-New Delhi flight was diverted to Rome on February 23 following a bomb threat.

Frustrated by the unexpected detour and the disappearance of his checked luggage, the passenger took to X (formerly Twitter) to seek help from American Airlines.

“AA292 getting rerouted due to a bomb threat has left me stranded at a Rome hotel—my checked bags are at the airport. The crew and ground staff were amazing, but I’m extremely stressed—I urgently need my bags to rebook my trip. Unable to get any help. Please help,” he wrote.

Since being shared on February 24, the post has garnered over 400 views.

Within a few hours, American Airlines replied to his tweet and apologised. They also assured him of assistance. “We are sorry to hear you were unable to get your bag. We have reached out to our team in FCO to see if we can you additional information,” the Airlines responded.

On Sunday, American Airlines flight AA292 was diverted from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

After the crew voiced security concerns, the aircraft landed safely at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci International Airport around 5:30 pm, according to an AFP story that cited the FAA.

Upon landing in Rome, the American Airlines flight carrying 199 passengers and 15 crew members reportedly underwent a comprehensive inspection at Rome’s request. Passengers were screened at the terminal, and the flight was cleared to depart Rome after completing all necessary procedures.

The nature of the security concern was not disclosed by the US aviation authority; however, the Flight Emergency Site and news agency Reuters, citing sources, stated the flight was diverted because of a suspected bomb threat.

The moment a Boeing 787-9 plane was escorted by an Italian Air Force jet before its landing was documented in viral social media videos. A senior individual with knowledge of the situation told ABC News that a bomb threat got through email but was later proved to be false.
