The power of social media shouldn’t be underestimated. Sometimes, a low-quality video can bring results that even months of complaints can’t. For example, clips highlighting India’s deplorable road conditions in prominent metro cities often go viral, sparking outrage and discussion, leaving the civic bodies no choice but to act upon them. If anything, this proves how a simple hashtag can have a profound impact. Along similar lines, when a Canadian resident brought attention to Bengaluru’s poor pedestrian infrastructure, it prompted the city’s authorities to take accountability and initiate immediate action.

After the Canadian national’s footage, posted on X, started spreading like wildfire, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) launched an intensive cleaning drive around Bengaluru’s Majestic area to improve the footpaths. GBA’s official X-handle uploaded a series of pictures showcasing that operations were being conducted to clean pedestrian walkways and repair damaged roads, ensuring litter-free streets and safer walking spaces.

The side note read, “An intensive cleaning drive was carried out around the Majestic surroundings by the Bengaluru Central City Corporation team, focusing on the footpaths to ensure a clean and safe pedestrian space.”

After the roads were cleared, the Canadian posted “before and after” images of the same stretch on X, thanking the GBA. “Thank you for listening and taking rapid action, GBA. No more parkour over barbed wire required by pedestrians,” he wrote.

The internet reacted to the changes made. “Thanks to the vlogger. God bless him,” commented one user. Another requested, “the government, to clean the entire Bengaluru, especially the garbage issues.”
