Ben Stokes ruled out — England suffer huge injury blow before Oval Test against India, ENG vs IND team news

England captain Ben Stokes and pacer Jofra Archer have both been ruled out of the fifth Test against India at The Oval, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Wednesday.

“Captain Ben Stokes is unavailable due to a right shoulder injury. Also missing out are spinner Liam Dawson and pace bowlers Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse,” the ECB said in a statement.

“England have included Jacob Bethell, who will bat at No.6. Surrey bowlers Gus Atkinson and Jamie Overton come into the side, along with Nottinghamshire quick Josh Tongue.”

The Three Lions lead the five-match series 2-1 and drew the fourth Test in Manchester in a game that involved an episode between Ravindra Jadeja and Stokes, where the former continued to bat despite the latter proposing a hand shake to end the game early.

England line-up for fifth Test vs India:

Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope (c), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jacob Bethell, Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Jamie Overton, Josh Tongue
