Over the last few months, tensions have continued to rise between driver unions and app-based ride platforms like Uber and Ola in Karnataka. Several unions have called for stricter rules and regulations while also opposing services such as bike taxis that were suspended last month following a High Court order. These developments have made commuting tougher for many, especially during rush hours or in areas with fewer public transport options. Now, a frustrated commuter’s sharp post about Bengaluru’s transport situation has caught wide attention on social media.
Shared on X (formerly Twitter), the post reads, “Bangalore is an absolute sh*thole of a city. I’ve been trying to book a cab or an auto for the last 30 damn minutes, nothing. Now these unions have decided to ban Uber and Ola too. First, they banned bike taxis, and now this? What kind of mafia nonsense is this? No infrastructure, no proper public transport, constant language barriers, it’s a joke. Honestly, the state should just declare an office shutdown so we can all pack up and move to a city that actually functions.”

In the comment section, many agreed with the user and shared their own problems with commuting. Others disagreed and defended the city and its transport system.
One user said, “I resonate this pain man! Have been struggling so much… Within a second of requesting for a ride, it shows options for Tips. And now no cab/auto accepts the ride without that.”
Another replied, “True transportation is bad here unless you have your own vehicle. Use Yulu if you can find any.”
“True, man. There’s barely a strip of road between potholes, traffic’s insane and instead of fixing the problem, they’re busy banning Ola and Uber,” someone commented.
But not everyone agreed. A person defended, “Leave bro, nobody is asking you to stay, we know about our state well, it has excellent public transport along with metro. I agree it’s a little crowded but it’s fine.”
An individual added, “Every city has its flaws, but blaming the entire culture, language & system just because you couldn’t get a cab in 30 minutes? That’s a bit too much. If this is your patience level, maybe city life isn’t for you, boss. Also, the barrier isn’t the language, it’s the entitlement.”
Meanwhile, in a relief to ride-hailing and bike-taxi industry, the central government recently introduced the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines (MVAG) 2025. Under these new guidelines, states now have the option to allow the use of non-transport (private) motorcycles for passenger rides through aggregator platforms.
