When comparing the delivery experiences of Blinkit and Zepto, Aum Vats highlighted the better reporting capabilities, dress code enforcement, and rider support of Blinkit.

A Delhi man spent a week riding Zepto and Blinkit to gain insight into the day-to-day struggles of delivery workers. After analysing the advantages and disadvantages of both quick-commerce platforms, Aum Vats shared his experience in a series of posts on X (previously Twitter).
Zepto and Blinkit have yet to openly respond to the widely shared post.
Despite Zepto’s neatly ordered dark stores, Aum Vats claimed that Blinkit provided smoother rides. “Last week, I took on a new project at hand – Understanding the rider’s journey in the Q-comm. industry. I spent a week delivering orders for Zepto and Blinkit, and here are some insights and potential improvements both of them could make,” Aum Vats stated in his now-viral post.

Aum Vats shared images from inside the distribution hubs of both companies to demonstrate that he wasn’t merely speculating. He claimed that his objective was to have firsthand knowledge of the path taken by the employee who maintains these platforms.
Both platforms offered advantages and disadvantages, but Blinkit’s rider experience was superior overall. According to Aum Vats, this is because Zomato (now Eternal), the parent firm of Blinkit, offered a more structured work atmosphere.
“While Zepto scores higher for its store conditions (based on my observations at the dark store visited), the overall rider experience at Blinkit seems more mature,” Aum Vats explained in his thread, adding, “This maturity likely stems from Blinkit’s integration within the larger Zomato (now Eternal) business ecosystem.” In addition, he posted two images from his visit to the nearby Blinkit store.

According to Aum Vats, one of Blinkit’s best features was its in-app feature, which let users report unsafe areas and poor road conditions—something Zepto did not have at all. “When an order is placed, it is packed by a team of packers and is ready for pickup at a designated area (called Pigeon Hole). The rider swiftly collects the order within a minute, verifies items, and marks it as ‘ready to deliver,’” he wrote.
“The rider then receives the customer’s name and address. Notably, phone numbers are not disclosed to riders, which is commendable (I confirmed with the store in charge by portraying a fake scenario1 that I needed it, but was essentially denied under any circumstances),” he added in his post.

Aum Vats also offered his recommendations for the two apps. “One thing Zepto could do to shave off 50 seconds is replace Bar-codes with QR-codes, just to increase scanning efficiency. Blinkit needs to fix this a lot: there’s not much clear indication in-app or at the store pickup. No cross-checking of the order being picked up either,” he also claimed.
Furthermore, Aum Vats had to deal with “erroneous distance calculations” among other problems. He included screenshots of an order as evidence of his concern. In these terms, he claimed that Blinkit was “fairly accurate.”
One issue that I did come across while delivering with @ZeptoNow was erroneous distance calculations. The attached order details below show I’ve been compensated for 1.4km while the actual distance was 3.5km, I tried asking the store in charge but received no response.… pic.twitter.com/mlFeEzIcTz

Speaking on another feature, Aum Vats stated that before distributing the final order, he needed to provide proof of his last delivery. Additionally, he shared the feedback he received from other delivery riders.

Another important distinction was the dress code for delivery. After his first delivery, Blinkit gave him a uniform right away, but Zepto told him he would have to wait two weeks.
Blinkit store staff did ask me to follow a dress code: Blinkit t-shirts, full-length pants, and shoes. Zepto’s, however, did not emphasize dress code. Blinkit provided a t-shirt immediately after my first delivery, whereas the Zepto store manager informed me of a two-week wait.… pic.twitter.com/x16JXO5YC0– Aum Vats (@aumvats) April 1, 2025
Additionally, the support system was different. For help with wages, incentives, and efficiency advice, Blinkit provides direct access to a fleet coach. According to Aum Vats, Zepto lacked such a mechanism.
