Linda Yaccarino announced her resignation on a social media post, where she thanked Elon Musk for the opportunity.
Linda Yaccarino was appointed as X CEO in June 2023
Grok, an artificial intelligence chatbot created by Elon Musk-owned xAI, has been in the news recently for all the wrong reasons. Amid recent public scrutiny on the antisemitic controversies around Grok, X CEO Linda Yaccarino has resigned from her post. This comes as a surprise move for many, as Yaccarino was designated as the top executive only two years ago.
On July 9, she announced her resignation on a social media post on X, thanking Elon Musk for “the opportunity of a lifetime”. Yaccarino wrote, “This team has worked relentlessly from ground-breaking innovations like Community Notes, and, soon, X Money to bringing the most iconic voices and content to the platform. Now, the best is yet to come as X enters a new chapter with xAI.”
After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of ????.When @elon musk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company. I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me…

Soon, Elon Musk also commented her post, stating, “Thank you for your contributions.”
Since her resignation, Elon Musk or X has not announced any successor for her post.
What led Linda Yaccarino to quit as X CEO?
While the former X CEO has not revealed any particular reason behind her decision, social media users blame Grok’s comments against Yaccarino for the unexpected resignation.
Moments after the 61-year-old quit her role, X users shared Grok’s now-deleted harsh commentary on Yaccarino.
Moreover, Elon Musk’s five-word response to Yaccarino’s resignation post has sparked rumours regarding a possible feud between the two. A Reuters report cited experts suggesting that Yaccarino was trying her best to run the business while regularly putting out fires. In fact, Yaccarino has previously hinted at being under pressure from Musk to cut expenses while raising revenue.
To add, Grok has been a topic of worry for employees at X due to its antisemitic and pro-Hitler posts. While xAI has assured that it has removed the inappropriate statements and is working on content moderation, the incident is now being linked to Yaccarino’s exit.
Who is Linda Yaccarino and what is her net worth?
Before taking over as the CEO of X in June 2023, Yaccarino was employed at NBCUniversal. She was employed as head of the company’s international advertising division. At X, formerly Twitter, she was responsible for stabilising the ad business.
According to a LiveMint report, Yaccarino’s investment portfolio with 13 stocks is currently worth $5 million, while her total net worth is around $40 million. She owns luxurious properties, cars, and yachts under her name.
