Workplace exploitation was brought to light by a Reddit post about a manager who insisted on 12-hour shifts and forbade workers from taking breaks.

A Reddit user shared a screenshot of his manager’s message, sparking conversations about employee rights and workplace exploitation in India. The manager’s response sparked a lot of discussion and attention online when the worker declined to work 12-hour shifts for a basic salary of Rs 3.8 lakh per annum (LPA).
“Today manager posted this on the Telegram group when I refused to work for 12 hours with a basic pay of 3.8 LPA,” the user wrote on Reddit recently. After multiple users brought attention to the salary disparity, he eventually changed “LPM” (lakhs per month) to “LPA” (lakhs per year).
The screenshot of the manager’s message, which was initially in Hindi, made clear that long work hours were strictly required. “I need day and night support till the 25th, so no one should miss the office. If anyone has an issue, inform me now and call me—I will listen to all problems and resolve them. If there is any gap in work, I will not entertain anyone,” the message in Hindi roughly translates to.
Stressing that the workload is non-negotiable, the manager added, “There should be no gaps in work. If anyone feels too much pressure, they can talk to Batra Sir and request a team change.”

Shared on February 25, the post has garnered over 400 upvotes. Many people responded negatively to the post, pointing out that the work expectations were too high.
Some were more intrigued by the fact that Telegram was being used for office communication, while others advised the man to log off on time regardless of the manager’s instructions.
A user said, “If you don’t have financial responsibilities, leave right now. If not, find a better job. It depends on what you do, but try your best to be good at it.”
Another suggested, “Say ‘Sure, sir’ and log out at 6 PM daily. The next day, if he asks, say ‘Yes, sir’ and do the same. Repeat without any guilt or shame.”
“My salary is way lower than yours but I’m satisfied with my 7 hours of workday without any pressure!!!” a user on Reddit wrote.
“Bhai, we need to be alive, to enjoy the money we made, they don’t bury your money along with you,” another user remarked.
