A woman received the shock of her life after a friend sent her an invitation to a birthday party, which had an admission fee of $499 (approximately Rs 43,000). Not just that, the invitee was supposed to pay another $250 (approximately Rs 21,000), should they bring a guest.
As per the digital invite, the party is supposed to happen on Monday, February 3, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. She explained that her partner had previously supported this friend by providing private space at his property for their political events.
However, when the friend asked to use the space again for the celebration, her partner wanted to know what the funds would be used for. When the friend refused to answer, he chose not to offer the space.
Taking to Reddit, the woman wrote, “Got invited to a friend’s birthday party. I have to pay $499 to make it and $250 if I bring a guest. A friend got elected to the city council and purchased a new home and somehow this makes sense to her. Gotta pay the mortgage somehow.”
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “I cannot imagine how a 2-hour birthday party on a Monday could be worth $500.”
Another hilariously suggested, “Contact your friend and notify them that someone must have hacked their account because it’s asking for a lot of money to attend a birthday party, which is clearly a scam.”
“Is this not a fundraiser? I work in political fundraising and it looks to me like a classic fundraiser invite with donation levels, not for a social event,” a comment read.
An individual shared, “Sounds like they are no longer your friend, or at least I’d stop being friends with this entitled idiot. What kind of self-centered POS expects their friends to pay to go to their birthday party.”
One more added, “From a newly elected city council person, I think this is straight up shady, it makes me think she’s fishing to see who’s willing to bribe her for political favours.”
Since the post was shared on Reddit, it has garnered over seventy thousand views.
In the comment section, the woman further explained that her partner supported them throughout their entire campaign, reserving private spaces in his establishment to tend to their private events and meetings.
“They were transparent and organised by the county political party organization. They actually asked him to lend his space out for this birthday event over a week ago. When he asked where the contributions would be going, they declined to disclose so he decided not to offer his place,” she added. It’s happening, now it’s just shaking our heads and making a joke of the whole thing because of how ridiculous it is, she concluded.
