A wife’s unusual solution to her husband’s absence from the ritualistic dip at Maha Kumbh has become a viral sensation on social media. The video depicts the woman, attending the religious gathering without her husband, immersing her phone in the Sangam waters while engaged in a video call with him.
The Maha Kumbh, held in Prayagraj, is a major religious festival in India, drawing millions of devotees to bathe in the sacred confluence of rivers known as the Sangam. This year, a record 63 crore people have participated in the event, which concludes on Mahashivratri on February 26.
With many unable to attend the event in person, several resorted to creative solutions, sharing their experiences on social media. Some printed photos of loved ones and dipped them in the water, while others symbolically bathed by reciting names.
However, the video of the wife’s innovative approach to her husband’s absence has captured significant attention. The video shows the woman, alone at the Sangam, making a video call to her husband, who is lying on a bed. She then proceeds to submerge the phone in the water, symbolically allowing her husband to participate in the ritual.

The video has sparked amusement and disbelief online, with some users questioning the logic behind the act. Some commented that if the phone had slipped into the water, the husband would have achieved “salvation” directly. Others simply found humour in the situation, tagging friends who missed the event and suggesting they try the same method.
