A shocking video of a woman getting swept away in Ganga river has recently gone viral. The unfortunate incident is said to have happened on April 15 while the woman and her family were visiting Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand.
The incident happened while the woman was probably shooting a reel video near Manikarnika Ghat. The tragic incident, captured in the video, is currently doing the rounds on the internet.
The 16-second viral video shows a woman standing in the Ganga river at Manikarnika Ghat in Uttarkashi, posing for the camera in spite of the powerful water current. The woman is seen posing while standing in the river with no apparent support.
Suddenly she is seen losing control and slipping into the river. She was swept away by the river’s strong current. Further in the clip, a child can be heard calling out to her mother, “Mummy! Mummy!” However, it was too late, and the video ends abruptly. The whole incident happened in a matter of seconds and it has left the internet shocked.

The video shared on X, on April 16, has garnered over 66,000 views. Many users expressed anger at how people risk their lives for a few likes and views.
A user wrote, “A small kid lost the mother just because of reels. Don’t let your wife become mad for social media, it will ruin childhood of your kids.”
Another said, “Why can’t just put a ban on insta reels …just remove that section u can simply post..#government of india.”
“These days temple has become a place of reel rather than faith,” a user commented on X.
“I have sympathy for that child but none for that woman,” another remarked.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police apparently both arrived at the location to begin a search operation after the authorities were alerted. The rescue crew searched extensively, but they were unable to find the woman. The woman is expected to be between 20 and 25 years old.
Tourists and locals alike have been warned by authorities to be extremely cautious around riverbanks and in other dangerous areas. When recording for social media, disregarding safety precautions might have deadly results. The local police and Uttarkashi district administration are making every effort to find and retrieve the woman.
