A Delhi woman has sparked a wave of concern on social media over the soaring flight fares between Delhi and Bengaluru. Khushboo Verma, in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), highlighted the shocking increase in ticket prices, noting that a one-way flight costs Rs 5000 more than it did in 2022 – even when booked two weeks in advance.
“When I moved from Delhi to Bengaluru in 2022, my flight ticket cost around INR 3.5k,” she wrote. “Today, the same one-way route is costing me INR 8.5K, even if I book 2 weeks in advance.”
When I moved from Delhi to Bengaluru in 2022, my flight ticket costed around INR 3.5k. Today, the same one-way route is costing me INR 8.5K, even if I book 2 weeks in advance. What is this inflation? And why is no one doing anything about it? How are people affording it?— Khushboo Verma (@khushbooverma_) January 31, 2025

But not everyone agreed. A user wrote, “My Mamaji went to Bangalore for his honeymoon in 1986 for Rs 8,500 one way per person. So in the last nearly 40 years airplane ticket rates have seen ZERO inflation! Also Bangalore ticket prices vary a lot based on demand and day of the week.”

In a related development, Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu announced a 50% reduction in airfares for passengers traveling to the Maha Kumbh Mela, effective February 1. This came after ticket prices soared due to a surge in demand. Ticket prices, especially to Prayagraj, skyrocketed, with one-way fares from cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru reaching up to Rs 50,000, and some routes seeing price hikes of nearly 600%. While airlines justified the fare hikes as a result of supply and demand, critics accused them of profiteering, particularly during such a significant religious gathering.
