The rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have revolutionized content creation, automation, and development, allowing users to generate realistic text, images, audio, and code with just a few prompts. However, AI models still struggle with certain requests, as highlighted by a recent viral post.
A US woman named Braelyn shared her amusing yet surprising experience with ChatGPT’s image generation feature. Posting a screenshot of her conversation, she revealed how the AI responded when she asked, “Generate an image that represents what you know about me.”
Much to her surprise, the AI-generated image was of an Indian-looking man with a beard and glasses. Baffled by the unexpected result, she shared the screengrab on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “What am I doing wrong with my life?”
Taking to the comments section, the user pointed out that all of her female friends are also getting men. “Maybe it’s bias? Apparently everyone gets an Indian man with a beard and glasses. Who is he?” she questioned.
The post quickly gained traction online, capturing the attention of social media users. Shared on March 27, it sparked a wave of reactions from the internet community. While many users were amused and intrigued by the AI’s unexpected response, others rushed to ChatGPT’s website to try the same prompt, eager to see what humorous results they would get.
“This might be the most generic face for a software guy from India. AI must have looked into prominent features for an IT guy from India,” read a comment.
Another shared, “This is an interesting topic! The new image gen definitely feels “agentic” and “thinks” a bit before making an image. You probably work with GPT a lot for coding and/or products. And therefore it equates that to an Indian developer. I use GPT all day every day for EVERYTHING. Literally, I treat it as if it’s attached to my spine or in my head. It’s incredible the kind of observations and insights you can get when you treat it as a true copilot, not a tool.”
“This is exactly why AI still needs human intervention. It just makes up stuff!” one user pointed out,” said an individual.
One of them noted, “Maybe the AI thinks ‘Braelyn’ is a common Indian name. Who knows how these things work?”
Now ask it to explain why it chose the features, dress, and background. I got a similarly lame image, but in the explanation was the beard and slightly tousled hair that suggest, ‘I haven’t slept in 3 years, but I still ship code.’ And honestly, that is spot on,” commented a user.
Another X user chimed in, saying, “I asked the same question. I got this response, so this face seems like a prototype.”
So far, the post has amassed over 2,57,000 views.
