An Air India Express flight IX 196 from Dubai to Jaipur allegedly had a non-functional air conditioning system for hours, a woman has alleged. Sharing a video on social media, Aarzo Sethi, a popular dietician, said that Air India kept passengers inside the plane for more than five hours without air conditioning, crew response, or any information regarding the issue.
The video opens with Sethi criticising the crew for failing to respond to the passengers and then showing her son and numerous other passengers soaked in sweat. She said, “This is my 3-year-old son, drenched in sweat. We have been pressing the crew button for ages and no one has responded. This is the level of irresponsibility we are dealing with.”
As the clip progresses, she records other passengers fanning themselves with safety instruction cards. She then asked, “Even if it’s a technical fault, where is the basic communication? Where is the accountability?”
In the caption of her post, she wrote, “We were stranded inside an Air India Express flight for 5+ hours Flight number Ix196 with no AC, no communication, and zero assistance from the crew. All co-passengers were distressed, sweating in the heat, with no clarity on what was happening. After the Ahmedabad flight incident, this felt even more terrifying. How can the same issues be repeated without accountability?”
Sethi referred to the occurrence as a “serious safety lapse,” and urged the airline to take responsibility before ‘it’s too late.’
Responding to the clip, the airline clarified that the AC was functioning normally and that the cabin crew responded to guest requests once the flight was airborne.
“Some of our flights from cities in the UAE are experiencing delays post-boarding due to ATC congestion following the closure of certain airspace,” it said in a statement.
“We are aware of a video on social media in which a guest has commented on the cabin temperature while the aircraft was on the ground for over an hour prior to departure The air conditioning system was functioning normally; however, when an aircraft remains on the ground with its doors open for an extended period, especially in hot weather conditions like those in Dubai, the cooling effect may not feel optimal until after take-off,” it added.
On Thursday, a London-bound Air India plane crashed into a medical college complex in Ahmedabad, within moments of takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
