Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle knows what’s up. Royal Challengers Bangalore fans, who have backed Virat Kohli for years through his thick and thin, find it only fitting to give the celebrated cricketer a tribute, one to be remembered for ages. Kohli, 36, closed the chapter on his 14-year-long Test career recently. The news of him saying goodbye to the red-ball format was met with a massive question mark that got the lyrical icon Javed Akhtar to post on ‘X’. Akhtar, in his post, urged the star to reconsider his decision, and that it was a premature retirement in his books. But respected his decision nonetheless.

So what’s the post that Harsha Bhogle stumbled upon?

RCB Fan’s Viral Message

Kohli slammed 30 centuries in the 123 Tests he played for India. As a captain, Kohli emerged as the most successful leader in the all-whites format, taking the nation to 40 victories out of 68 contests. A win percentage of 58.82%. MS Dhoni came in second with 45% wins in Tests, and ‘Dada’ Sourav Ganguly ranked third with a winning stat of 42.86% in the red-ball format.

While Kohli did not play a farewell match or make a huge deal about his retirement from Tests, his fans, especially those from the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp in the Indian Premier League (IPL), have taken it upon themselves to bow down to the King in the most epic fashion. Their plan? Ditch the RCB reds and don a white jersey.

A message circulating suggests just that, and it has been gaining momentum ever since it was posted by a Kohli fan on social media.

Here’s what the message reads:

“For the next RCB match, could you help spread the word and encourage fans to wear Test whites in the stadium as a tribute to Virat Kohli?

He made so many of us fall in love with Test cricket, and even though I’ll never get to see him play in whites live, I just want him to know how deeply loved he was in his favourite format. This gesture could be a powerful way to show that his legacy goes far beyond stats – it lives in the hearts of fans. Please think about it and help us make it real. It would mean the world to many of us.

I even made a template. I also think we can raise fund to give away the jerseys outside chinnaswamy. That’s our best chance.

Even if not jerseys plain white tshirts should do (sic).”

Harsha Bhogle Backs The Idea

Supporting the sentiment and gesture put forth by the RCB army, Bhogle, who came across the “forward”, took over to his ‘X’ account to further circulate the message.

Tagging the IPL franchise’s official ‘X’ account, Bhogle wrote that it would be a “sight for the ages” if they pulled off showing up in white for the game.

“Hey @RCBTweets fans, are you planning to turn up in white for the game on the 17th? Remember seeing a post suggesting that. It will be incredible and a sight for the ages if true and if you can pull it off.”

RCB Vs KKR – Target Match

IPL was suspended briefly amid the tensions escalating between India and Pakistan following a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 and India’s swift response with “Operation Sindoor” to destroy terror camps in Pakistan and POK.

When the ceasefire was met between the two nations, BCCI rolled out the revised schedule for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. As it turns out, the first match after the halt is between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Cherry on top, the venue set for the much-anticipated clash is M.Chinnaswamy Stadium – RCB and Kohli’s home ground.
