Why This Delhi Man Misses Living In Bengaluru – News18

The man said that he is ready to defend Bengaluru at any cost, joking about being prepared for a physical showdown with anyone who dares rank Delhi above it.

A Delhiite’s viral Reddit rant compares Delhi with Bengaluru.

A man from Delhi, who has been to Bengaluru a few times – the longest being three months, took to Reddit to rant about why he misses living in the tech capital of India. And he is ready to defend Bengaluru at any cost, joking about being prepared for a physical showdown with anyone who dares rank Delhi above it. According to him, Bengaluru’s critics are often “techies who dislike their jobs” or “narrow-minded individuals” spreading unwarranted negativity about the city.

From defending Bengaluru’s infamous traffic, water crisis, and auto drivers to praising its food, pleasant weather, and clean air, the man covered it all. He also addressed the city’s language challenges, adding that Bengaluru, blessed with great geography, is home to kind-hearted people and retains a charming old-school British influence.

‘Call me an honorary Kannadiga’

The post begins with an acknowledgement of Bengaluru’s infamous traffic, where travelling just a few kilometres can take hours (and yes, at times, Google Maps has even suggested walking as a faster option for a 6 km commute). Despite this, the man defends Bengaluru, stating he’d still rather be stuck in its traffic than face the congestion in Delhi.

“Let’s get certain things out of the way first. Traffic. Yes, it can be bad. But it’s there in Delhi too. Try being on the road to Gurgaon or near ITO. I’d still rather be in traffic in Bangalore than Delhi,” the Redditor wrote.

Next up was of course the water crisis – another issue that kept Bengaluru in the news this year, second only to its traffic woes. Addressing this, he remarked, “There are places in Delhi where you don’t get water either so let’s not kid ourselves that Bangalore is unique in that way.”

Addressing the complaint of rude auto drivers, he flipped the script. “What next? Rude autowallahs? You have to be kidding me. Autowallahs look way more civilised and polite in Bangalore than Delhi where every person you meet has this wild look. I’ve been commuting multiple times daily by auto for three months and never had a problem with anyone telling me to speak in Kannada so I suspect this is highly blown out of proportion,” he added, suggesting that learning a few basic Kannada phrases wouldn’t hurt anyone planning to stay long-term.

And honestly, many agree with him. Think about it – if you’re planning to settle or live for at least a few months in a foreign country, how do you expect to communicate if you don’t learn the regional language or at least a common language like English, which, for many, isn’t their first language either?

He also highlighted that many North Indians hold a dismissive attitude toward Bengaluru and its regional language, Kannada: “The kind who cannot look beyond ‘Chhole Bhature’ and think South Indian food is only idly dosa.”

Building on this, he shifted to talking about the city’s food scene. “FOOD. Insane. Especially if you’re a non-vegetarian. Where do I even begin? It’s also MUCH more affordable and I include restaurant food. That itself should end the debate.”

He then moved to the city’s famed weather, contrasting it with Delhi’s harsh extremes. “But no, let’s move forward. We’ve all heard of the famed Bangalore weather. If you take it for granted, try living in Delhi where temperatures are extreme and you’re either burning or freezing (the latter is worse as there’s no indoor heating in homes),” he said, only to pause briefly and talk about Delhi’s pollution which choked not only the people living in the city but also anyone checking the alarming AQI levels on their screens.

“This year pollution (smog) was the worst it has ever been in memory. Something as basic as a blue sky is science fiction here and you notice that when you see a thick layer of smog as you descend on the city by plane,” he lamented. And Delhites agree with him.

The Reddit user, who goes by Teurtillian online, further praised the city’s geographical location, saying, “You have Mangalore and the coast on one side. You can even take a road trip to Goa. You have Coorg and the hills. You have Northern Karnataka. You have Mysore. You have Kerala down south and Tamil Nadu to the east.” He compared this to Delhi, which he described as “surrounded by literal wastelands like Punjab and Haryana and UP”.

He then added, “There’s also much more diversity in Bangalore I feel than in Delhi,” concluding that, despite being born and raised in Delhi, he finds himself favouring Bengaluru.
