Indigo vs Mahindra 6e Update: A legal dispute has started between the country’s largest airline Indigo and the leading automobile company Mahindra and Mahindra over the use of ‘6E’ trademark. IndiGo’s parent company Interglobe Aviation has filed a case against Mahindra & Mahindra’s electric vehicle unit Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited for trademark infringement.
In a regulatory filing with the stock exchange, Mahindra & Mahindra said that the company’s subsidiary Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited has unveiled its electric origin SUV, BE 6e and XEV 9e on 26 November 2024. According to M&M, Mahindra Electric Automobile has applied for trademark registration of the BE 6e, which is part of its electric Origin SUV portfolio, under Class 12 (Vehicles).
Mahindra & Mahindra said in its clarification that the company does not see any dispute in this because BE 6e is not a 6E trademark. This is completely different from IndiGo’s “6E” trade mark which represents airlines and there is no confusion of any kind. And its different styling emphasizes more on its uniqueness.
In its clarification, Mahindra & Mahindra said, the company and Mahindra Electric Automobile have taken cognizance of the concerns of InterGlobe Aviation Limited regarding trademark infringement, which was not our intention. The company and Mahindra Electric are engaged in discussions with Indigo to find a solution.
IndiGo has 60 percent stake in the country’s domestic aviation sector and the company has been using “6E” for its branding for a long time. According to Reuters report, the lawsuit filed by IndiGo states that Mahindra has deliberately tried to associate itself with the aviation industry and has tried to show that its car looks similar to the cockpit. By filing a case in Delhi High Court, Indigo has demanded an immediate ban on this step of Mahindra.
