Abhay Singh, who gained recognition as ‘Iit baby‘ during the Maha Kumbh, was detained by Jaipur Police on Monday under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities detained Singh after discovering cannabis in his possession. He was later released on bail as the quantity of cannabis found was below the limit stipulated by the NDPS Act.

Jaipur Police arrested Iit baby from the Hotel Park Prime but later released him on bail. While authorities claim they responded to a suicide attempt by a young man at the hotel based on information from the control room, some reports suggest the raid on Singh’s hotel room may have been prompted by other motives. The identity of the source who informed the police about ‘IIT Baba’ remains unclear.

Police presonnel from Jaipur’s Shiprapath Police Station briefly detained IIT Baba from the hotel. Police said they received information from the control room that a young man, Abhay Singh, was attempting suicide at the Riddhi Siddhi Park Classic Hotel. Upon reaching the location, police found IIT Baba, Abhay Singh, who admitted to being under the influence of cannabis.

Speaking to IANS, IPS officer Aditya Kakre of Mansarovar Police Station said that the suicide report is yet to be confirmed, and it is too early to comment on it. He confirmed that cannabis was recovered from Abhay Singh, but since the quantity was minimal, he was later released.

Kakre also stated that police received information from a doctor regarding IIT Baba’s presence at the hotel. A search subsequently revealed two grams of cannabis in IIT Baba’s possession. He was taken to the police station and later released on bail due to the small quantity of cannabis recovered.

Surprisingly, while leaving the hotel, IIT Baba wished a police personnel on his birthday. He claimed to be unaware of why they had come to his room. IIT Baba refuted the allegations against him, stating that if arrests were made for such acts, many more people would also face legal action.

Speaking to News18 India, ‘IIT Baba’ said, “I smoke cannabis, but I’m not the only one – many sadhus consume it. If the police consider it a crime, so be it”.

Addressing the viral spread of fake news about him he said, “There are three-four fake news: one is of suicide, second is of my detention. The only truth is that bail was granted then and there.”

Iit babyrecently made headlines after alleging an assault during a news debate show. The incident reportedly occurred at a private news channel in Noida on Friday. The IIT Baba filed a police complaint stating that individuals dressed in saffron attire entered the newsroom and attacked him with sticks. Following the alleged assault, he staged a protest outside the Sector 126 police outpost but later ended it after police intervention and assurances.
