Let us know that a workshop was held in AIIMS Delhi recently on the issue of cancer. In this, Dr. Abhishek Shankar, Assistant Professor of AIIMS Radiation Oncology Department, said that if you are 30 years or more, then there is no need to do repeated screening of cervical cancer. Now such an option has been received in the form of HPV DNA test, which gives information about the upcoming risk of cancer in five years. He said that HPV DNA test not only identifies the initial stage of cancer, but it also catches the infection of the virus.
How is this test?
According to Dr. Shankar, HPV (Human Papillomavirus) DNA test gives accurate results up to 95 % and it is more effective than the Pap Smear Test. In this test, samples are taken from women’s cervix i.e. cervix. Within a few minutes, doctors know whether DNA of HPV virus is present in the woman’s body. He told that this test can be done in AIIMS. The special thing is that women can also give samples for this test.
What is the condition of cervical cancer in India?
According to Dr. Suman Bhaskar, head of AIIMS Radiation Oncology Department, cervical cancer cases are increasing rapidly in India. Every year more than 75 thousand women die due to cervical cancer. At the same time, 70 to 80 percent of cases come up when the disease has reached its last stage. If the disease is detected in the beginning, then treatment is quite easy. This disease can be avoided only by surgery or radiation.
