During this time, opposition parties have also started preparations to challenge the Liberal Party, due to which there is a possibility of spring elections after the new leader is elected. Indian-origin Anita Anand has been counted by BBC among the top five candidates who can replace Justin Trudeau. 57-year-old Anita Anand is currently serving as the country’s Transport and Home Minister. Due to her educational and political background, she has emerged as an important political figure. Anita Anand has a Bachelor of Political Studies from Queen’s University, a Bachelor of Jurisprudence from Oxford University, a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Toronto. Additionally, he has taught at prestigious institutions such as Yale, Queen’s University, and Western University. Before entering politics, she was a law professor at the University of Toronto.

Anita Anand’s family background
Anita Anand was born in Kentville, Nova Scotia. His parents, Saroj D. Ram and S.V. (Andy) Anand, both were Indian physicians. His two sisters, Geeta and Sonia Anand, are also successful in their respective fields. Anita Anand entered politics in 2019 and has since become one of the most ambitious members of the Liberal Party.

She played a key role as Minister of Public Services and Procurement during the COVID-19 pandemic, where she was praised for her efforts to procure vaccines. In 2021, she was made the Defense Minister of Canada, where she played a key role in aiding Ukraine during the Russia–Ukraine War.
