Abhinav Chandrachud will argue the case of podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia who is facing multiple FIRs over the remarks he made in ‘India’s Got Latent’
Son of former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Abhinav Chandrachud, will be representing Ranveer Allahbadia in ‘India’s Got Latent’ case.
The case around YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia controversy took another turn on Friday when the podcaster decided to move the Supreme Court for clubbing all the FIRs filed against him over the crude remarks he made in Samay Raina’s show ‘India’s Got Latent’.
Allahbadia, who is popularly known as ‘BeerBiceps’, has been facing severe backlash since his video went viral in which he was heard asking a contestant, “Would you watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life, or would you join in once and stop it forever?”
In the wake of multiple FIRs filed against him, Allahbadia decided to appeal for clubbing all of them. The matter was presented before the bench by Abhinav Chandrachud, son of former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
Abhinav Chandrachud appealed to a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna. He requested an urgent hearing after informing the bench about multiple FIRs registered against Allahbadia.
Who Is Abhinav Chandrachud?
Abhinav Chandrachud, as his surname hints, is the son of former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
In May 2016, DY Chandrachud was appointed Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court and he became the Chief Justice of India in November 2022.
During his father’s tenure as CJI, Abhinav did not represent any case in the Supreme Court. He has not argued any case in the Supreme Court in the last eight years and six months.
DY Chandrachud, in his farewell speech, shared that he had once asked his sons Abhinav and Chintan to appear in the Supreme Court, however, the two had rejected the idea raising their concerns about professional integrity.
In 2008, Abhinav Chandrachud graduated from Government Law College, Mumbai and earned his LLB and BLS degrees. He was a Mumbai University rank-holder and recognised with the Honourable Justice DP Madon Prize in Constitutional Law.
He then pursued his Master of Laws (LLM) at Harvard Law School as a Dana Scholar.
He earned a Master of the Science of Law (JSM) and Doctor of the Science of Law (JSD) from Stanford Law School where he was a Franklin Family Scholar.
Abhinav Chandrachud had worked as an associate lawyer at the international law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. Apart from being a senior advocate, Abhinav is also an accomplished author and academic.
Among the books he wrote are Supreme Whispers: Conversations with Judges of the Supreme Court of India 1980-1989 (2018) and Republic of Rhetoric: Free Speech and the Constitution of India (2017).
