Nowadays, we live in the era of artificial intelligence, where people increasingly rely on ChatGPT for solutions to their problems. Often, the responses are satisfactory and can save considerable effort. However, there are times when ChatGPT provides an unexpected answer to some questions, for which users may not be prepared.
If we enjoy technology, it seems AI can now ‘enjoy’ us too. Something similar happened to a man from Norway who playfully asked ChatGPT, “Who am I?” The response he received left him terrified, prompting him to rush to the police station.
According to a Daily Star report, a man named Arve Hjalmar Holmen asked the AI chatbot to reveal something about him. The response he received was shocking.
To the question “Who am I?”, ChatGPT replied: “You are a resident of Norway who gained attention for a tragic reason. In December 2020, you killed your two sons, aged 7 and 10, who were later found dead on the banks of a pond.”
Horrified by this false claim, the man immediately went to the police station to file a complaint against the chatbot.
A Complaint Against ChatGPT
In his complaint to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Holmen stated that ChatGPT was spreading false information about him. While some details, such as his name and the number of his children, were accurate, the claim of murder was entirely fabricated.
He argued that such misinformation could destroy his life. Seeking justice, he approached Noyb, a group advocating for digital rights, requesting action against this defamation and compensation from ChatGPT’s creators. Meanwhile, OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, responded by stating that they are continuously working to improve the accuracy of the chatbot’s responses.
