To become a Garud Commando, it takes three years of very rigorous training. The training is so difficult that more than 30 percent of the trainees leave the training within the first three months. Garud commandos are deployed most in Jammu and Kashmir. The Army is intensifying its joint action with the Air Force Commandos. Garuda Commando has the biggest support in this. They are trained to take up the responsibility of airborne operations, airfield seizure and counter terrorism.

In commando training, they are taught to cross rivers and fire and climb mountains without support. Many kilometers are run with many kilos of load. One has to spend nights in isolated and dense forests. After completing the training, these commandos are capable of dealing with any situation. Garuda commandos equipped with dangerous weapons immediately eliminate the enemy.

It has its own selection process, under which physical, written and medical examination is conducted. There are two types of recruitment in this, one is commissioned and the other is non-commissioned. Non-commissioned recruitment is done by the Army through recruitment rally. To participate in this, it is necessary to have 50 percent pass in 12th. Along with this, there should be 50 percent marks in English also. If your age is between 17.6 years to 23 years, height is 152.5 cm, chest is 77 cm then you can join it.

Must be medically fit

There should be no problem in hearing, seeing and speaking, apart from this your blood, urine and ECG test will be done. The distance of 1.6 kilometers will have to be covered in 6.30 minutes. You will be made to do 10 pushups, 10 situps, 10 squats.

Written examination will be held after passing medical

After passing the medical, there is a written examination. After passing the test of English, Mathematics, Physics, Reasoning and General Awareness, there is Adaptability Test 1 and Test 2. Adaptability Test 1 consists of objective questions, Adaptability Test 2 consists of group discussion. After passing this, you will have to pass Dynamic Factor Test. After passing this, training will start.

Why was there need for Garuda Commando?

You will remember that in 2001, terrorists attacked the airbase in Jammu and Kashmir, after which this Garuda commando unit was formed. Their training is on the lines of Navy’s Marcos and Army’s Para Commandos. They are trained to take up the responsibility of airborne operations, airfield seizure and counter terrorism.

Garud Commando Salary

The salary of Garud Commando is like that of Para Commando and Marcos Commando. The salary for the post of Sub Lieutenant in Garuda Commando can range from Rs 72,100 to Rs 90,600. This salary varies according to the post. In Garud Commando, the highest salary is equal to that of a Cabinet Secretary, up to Rs 2,50,000. Apart from this, they also get many other facilities given by the Government of India like House Rent Allowance, Grade Pay and many other facilities.
