US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that his team is considering imposing 10 percent tariff on China from February 1. Now China’s reaction on this has come to light. According to news agency AFP, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday (22 January 2025) that his country will do anything to protect its national interests. China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said, “We have always believed that there is no winner in a trade war or a tariff war.”
China is America’s second largest trading partner. Trump said the decision to impose tariffs on China would be based on whether it is sending fentanyl to Mexico and Canada. Fentanyl is a type of narcotic which is 50 times more powerful and addictive than heroin.
