Russell Brand is making headlines after he was accused of sexual assault by four women between 1999 and 2005 in the UK. Despite the allegations, Brand has denied the claims and stated that he has never been involved in any non-consensual activities. Over the years, Brand has been known for working in hit films and TV shows, but his popularity grew after he started dating pop star Katy Perry. Their relationship became a major talking point and just a year after meeting on the set of Get Him to the Greek, the couple decided to get married in 2010 at the luxurious Aman-I-Khas resort in Rajasthan, India, in a traditional Hindu ceremony.
At that time, People reported that the wedding celebrations, which began with a Bollywood-style party, went on for several days. Although a Christian minister led the wedding ceremony, both Katy and Russell wore traditional Indian clothes. The grand wedding procession featured camels, horses and even elephants named Laxmi and Mala. For the guest’s entertainment, there were arrangement of Indian folk dancers and musicians. Throughout the ceremony, Russell wore kurta pyjama and Katy wore saris.
Reports further mentioned that the wedding featured traditional Indian instruments like the sitar, santoor, tabla and kettle drums, along with Rajasthani folk songs and Vedic chants were heard. When the guests arrived, they were welcomed by acrobats and jugglers. The wedding was a private event attended by friends and family. A few well-known names, including Jonathan Ross, David Walliams and Rihanna, were also part of the guest list.
Years before getting married in India, Russell Brand followed Hare Krishna movement and in a 2007 Guardian column, he mentioned “I’m a spiritual gent and increasingly that’s the level I want to vibrate on, were it not for my crazed lust for s** and glamour. I say Hare Krishna as often as possible, sometimes even when I’m not being filmed.”
Reportedly, the actor often visited the Krishna temple in Watford, UK, which once belonged to Beatles guitarist George Harrison. In 1973, Harrison gave the house to the Hare Krishna movement and it later became ISKCON Bhaktivedanta Manor.
Russell Brand and Katy Perry seemed like a perfect match, but their relationship ended in 2012, which left many heartbroken.
