From crowd-pleasers like aloo bhujia and chips to milk and paneer (because why not?), the orders spoke volumes about the country’s diverse celebrations. And let’s not forget the spicy side – condoms were a hot pick, with one even ordering blindfolds and handcuffs to dial up the drama.
Aloo bhujia topped the list
Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa gave us a sneak peek into how India partied its way out of 2024 and into the new year. According to his social media post, aloo bhujia took the crown as the ultimate party snack. And why not? Whether paired with your favourite drink or enjoyed by a bonfire while swapping stories, aloo bhujia is the MVP of almost all the celebrations.

“En route right now. 2,34,512 packets of aloo bhujia; 45,531 cans of tonic water; 6,834 packets of ice cubes; 1,003 lipsticks and 762 lighters. All should be delivered in the next 10 minutes. Party’s just getting started!” wrote Dhindsa on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Ice sales went up
To pair the aloo bhujia, chips, and other midnight munchies, folks were stocking up on soft drinks and ice cubes like there was no tomorrow. Swiggy’s co-founder, Phani Kishan A, spilled the tea – over 100 kg of ice was ordered on New Year’s Eve alone.
“Ice hit its peak at 7:41 PM with 119 kgs delivered in that minute!” wrote Swiggy’s co-founder revealed.
He added, “Despite doubling their orders, Chennai still trails behind Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad when it comes to stocking up for chilled drinks tonight.”

Condom sales spiked on New Year’s Eve
Dhindsa teased the customers with a playful post, asking, “Prep for the after-party?” before dropping some jaw-dropping stats. He revealed that the company delivered 1,22,356 packs of condoms, 45,531 bottles of mineral water, 22,322 Partysmart, and 2,434 Eno.

Swiggy Instamart joined in and revealed that a customer ordered blindfold and handcuffs on New Year’s Eve. Looks like they were planning a very memorable night!
