What is the connection between Geeta Jayanti and Mokshada Ekadashi?

The festival of Ekadashi falls on the eleventh day of Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha of every month, which is known by different names. Ekadashi falling in Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha month is called Mokshada Ekadashi.

Geeta Jayanti is also celebrated on the day of Mokshada Ekadashi, which is a special festival of Sanatan Dharma. This year, the fast of Mokshada Ekadashi and the festival of Geeta Jayanti is on Wednesday, 11 December 2024. Let us know why Geeta Jayanti and Mokshada Ekadashi happen on the same day.

It is said that the teachings given by Lord Krishna to Arjun during the Mahabharata war are called Bhagwat Geeta. According to mythological and religious belief, the day on which Lord Shri Krishna gave sermons to Arjun was the Ekadashi date of Margashirsha month.

Because of Shri Krishna’s sermon on Margashirsha or Agahan Ekadashi, this day is considered to be the birth day of Geeta and Geeta Jayanti is celebrated every year on this day.

Geeta was born from the mouth of Shri Krishna himself, because every verse of it came from the mouth of Lord Shri Krishna. Geeta is also known as Shrimadbhagvadgita and Gitopadesha.

Therefore, Lord Vishnu and Shri Krishna should be worshiped on Margashirsha Ekadashi. Besides, one must also recite Geeta on this day. Astrologer Anish Vyas tells that reciting Geeta on the day of Mokshada Ekadashi eliminates Pitradosh.
