What is codeine?
Codeine is a type of opioid, which is used to treat cough and mild to moderate pain. In the medical field, it is used only on the advice of a doctor. It is mainly known to suppress cough and provide relief from pain. It affects the parts of the brain that control the cough process. However, despite its effectiveness, indiscriminate use of codeine can give rise to many problems.
How does codeine affect the body?
When the medicine made from codeine gets metabolized in the liver, in this process a part of the codeine gets converted into morphine which plays an important role in reducing pain and cough. Morphine gives a feeling of relaxation to the body by slowing down the nervous system. However, it is beneficial to consume codeine only in a limited quantity. But there is always a risk of getting addicted to it. Due to repeated consumption, a person can become addicted to it, which increases dependence on the medicine and can lead to problems like overdose.

Excessive or unnecessary use of codeine sometimes becomes very dangerous. The brain of the person taking this drug stops working, sometimes due to this he starts having epileptic seizures. Children are plagued by mental illnesses. Codeine can be addictive, so if you have to take it for more than a few weeks, your doctor will tell you when and how to stop taking it.
